Summer Registration is Now Open!

2019 Mini-Camps at the Howland

  • All summer sessions meet Tuesday through Friday from 10a.m. to 12:30p.m. (except Week 1; due to holiday we’ll meet Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday only)
  • Location is at the historic Howland Cultural Center at 477 Main street in Beacon
  • $120 per session includes all art materials & healthy snack (except Week 1 which is pro-rated to $90 due to holiday)
  • Mixed age classes for kids 6-11; Older kid classes ages 9-13. (Kids 5 years old will be considered if they have completed Kindergarten.)
  • We’ll take a snack break in the garden and cool off with some water play activities!

Fabulous Fabrics (Mixed ages)

Kids will create a fun, original, wearable art collection, using a variety of creative techniques such as tie-dye, batik, fabric painting, and stitchery. You are what you wear – come and express your personal style! T-shirts or other garment will be provided, or bring one of your own to embellish if you prefer.

Summer Clay! (Mixed ages)

There’s nothing like the feeling of cool, squishy clay on a warm summer day! Kids will create summer inspired projects based on coil, pinch, and slab construction. This is a mixed age class – more advanced students will be encouraged to challenge themselves with more advanced projects and techniques. All pieces will be kiln fired.

Experienced students will help to design their own projects based on their personal interests and skill level. Those new to clay will learn the basics of coil, pinch, and slab construction as well as techniques for surface decoration.  All pieces will be kiln fired.

Ready, Set, Paint! (Mixed Ages)

Grab your imaginations and get ready to create large paintings, full of color and self expression! Creating for pleasure is an essential part of childhood, and there is nothing more gratifying for kids than to be able to express themselves freely and without judgment. We will experiment with color mixing, new ways of applying paint, and discover new inspirations for our paintings. Come and express yourself!

Tiny Treasures (Mixed ages)

Week 5 August 6-9(FULL!)Join Waiting List!

Learn how to make amazing miniatures such as furniture, food, and room accessories out of everyday objects like bottle caps, buttons, felt, beads & more. The finished creations can be displayed just as they are or they can be incorporated into a diorama style environment made by them. The kids are also encouraged to invent their own ideas for miniature objects, so there’s no end to the creativity this week!

Tiny Treasures (Older kids)

Week 6 August 13-16

Same as the traditional Tiny Treasures of Week 5 except this class is geared toward kids 9 and older. We will learn ways to incorporate a little bit more style, polish and sophistication into our creations!
