Fall 2016 Art Classes

  • Art Classes run for five weeks (Beacon classes are 4-5:30; Cold Spring 3:45-5:15)
  • Beacon class location is at the Howland Cultural Center (477 Main Street)
  • Cold Spring class location is the Putnam History Museum (63 Chestnut Street)
  • Cost is $110 per student, per session which includes all materials and fees
  • Mixed age classes are for kids 6-11; Older kid classes when offered are for ages 9-14

Tuesday 9/13 – 10/11

Painting Art Classes
We’ll celebrate the change of seasons by creating art inspired by the unique sights, patterns, colors, and textures of  Autumn.  Leaves are falling, warm earthy colors are everywhere…what better springboard is there  for art making? A variety of art materials will be used, choosing from the following:  paint, oil pastels, printing inks, and more!   Ages 6-11

Clay Art Classes
Learn the basics of everyone’s favorite medium – clay! Clay is a wonderful, expressive medium and is ideal for enhancing children’s development on many levels. We’ll learn coil, pinch, and slab construction as well as different surface decoration techniques.  Returning clay students may choose from new projects.  All pieces kiln fired. Ages 6-11 (No class on 10/12)

Exploring 2D Art
Thursday 9/15 – 10/13

Students will learn various art skills while their imaginations are actively engaged in projects that encourage creativity. They’ll explore a variety of art media such as pastel, charcoal, and watercolor while learning the basic as well as more experimental approaches to these materials.  Ages 6-11

2D Art for Older Kids

Advanced Art Classes
This class is designed for students ages 9-14 who are ready to take on new challenges with their art. They will learn about perspective, shading, composition and other ways to bring their art up to the next level. They will still, however, be given opportunities to express themselves freely and use their imaginations.  Focus will be on drawing and painting. Ages 9-14 (No class on 11/23)
