Papier Mache Sculpture

Papier mache is one of the most satisfying, simple, and creative materials our kids can work with! Students will design and create one of a kind papier mache sculptures using cardboard, paper, glue, wire, and finally, paint and embellishments for a finishing touch. Yes, it’s messy, but that’s what makes it so much fun!

Week 2 July 2-6*

Ready, Set, Paint!

Grab your imaginations and get ready to create some paintings, full of color and self expression! Creating for pleasure is an essential part of childhood, and there is nothing more gratifying for kids than to be able to express themselves freely and without judgment. We will experiment with color mixing, new ways of applying paint, and discover new inspirations for our paintings. Come and express yourself! (*This class meets July 2,3,5 &6)

Week 3 July 10-13

Pet Portraits – A Fundraiser for ARF & MHAA

Is your child an animal lover and an art lover? Kids who enroll in this class will have the unique opportunity to become animal advocates as well! Animal portraits will be painted (inspiration will come from actual animals in shelters awaiting adoption) and donated to our on-line auction to be held at a later date. 100% of the auction proceeds will be donated to local animal rescue. We have already raised nearly $6000 from our first four auctions combined! It’s a GREAT cause (and kids will learn lots about the painting process too!)

Week 4 July 31-Aug. 3

Clay Creations for Older Kids

See Clay Creations below for description but in this class, students will help to design their own projects and challenge themselves with new techniques. Ages 9 – 13.

Week 5 August 7-10 (FULL)

Clay Creations

There’s nothing like the feeling of cool, squishy clay on a warm summer day! Kids will learn coil, pinch, and slab construction as well as techniques for surface decoration. This class is open to all levels – more advanced students will be encouraged to challenge themselves with projects and techniques designed to reflect their level of mastery. All pieces will be kiln fired.

Art Classes: Tiny Treasures

Week 6 August 14-17 (FULL)

Tiny Treasures

Learn how to make amazing miniatures such as furniture, food, and room accessories out of everyday objects like bottle caps, buttons, felt, beads & more. The finished creations can be displayed just as they are or they can be incorporated into a diorama style environment made by them. The kids are also encouraged to invent their own ideas for miniature objects, so there’s no end to the creativity this week!
